Assignment 4

DREAMWEAVER CONTINUES...

Over the weekend, I have been trying to work on my father's website, but I've only been able to produce an Adobe Illustrator Prototype (on screen). The homepage looks great, but I can't transfer that layout to Dreamweaver. When I save the layout for web, and import it to DW, it seemed fine until i wanted to create links for the navigation--that's when the page cracked like it was an ice cold glass thrown into a pot of boiling water.

Is there a way to get the elements of my layout into dreamweaver?

I may have to take out each element and make it its own image instead of slices...

WEFT and Comments

Looking at the  WEFT page, I find lots of interest in using embedded fonts to style my page, but it wouldn't work on my Mac :(  I shall start the exploration now!

I've looked on some forum sites for a WEFT for mac and found this:

" I've used weft for forever, because I didn't need something new, it work fine, and all the articles I read about embedding seemed to focus on new and ever more complicated ways to embed fonts that were dependent on newer and newer technology....which seemed self-defeating.  Embedding fonts is used to make fonts more accessible so using technologies that not everyone has/has enabled just seems silly. Anyway, I'm now doing most of my work on a mac and it's a real pain to have to switch over just to embed fonts.  But weft is by microsoft, not mac compliant and is completely ancient.  Is there some free and simple alternative?" for original page click here

Type has a very big effect on the page's personality. I think that because there are many more youngsters online more often we need something aesthetic and dazzling for them to read or else they just glaze over the page and click somewhere else. By enticing the reader in with something that looks quite interesting with the help of a beautiful font, you can keep the reader on your page for a little longer. But how could I do this with a Mac?

Here's a funny little video about fonts:

So far, I've looked at and commented on  Shannon Copfer, Valerie Miner and Pete "the Beat" Sulsarski's blogs. From the other blogs, I would like to see something more original--like adding in something new and fun for others to check out in each entry.

Hey Ivana,

I don't normally consider myself attracted to brown in a page design, but I think your header and profile photo--with its orange background--really pull the layout together. I do wonder if changing the colors of the main text to a brown would add to the consistency of the layout or actually make it a little less interesting to look at, have you experimented with that?

In the post themselves you seem to switch between serif and san serif fonts in separate posts and sometimes within the post themselves. I think sticking to a specific, uniform font in your posts, except for perhaps changing it up where you want the information to stick out, would definitely add to the layout's consistency.

I really like that you personalized your blog with links in the sidebar. And I think your header image and profile pic, in general, are saaweeet ;D. LOL.

See you in class!

Hey!
I really like the design of your blog. I actually had to go into templates, to see if that was a pre-made one, or your own creation because it looked so well done.

I hadn't thought of Ashley's point about the text colour, but I think it might be worthwhile to explore. But I think it also looks quite nice the way it is.
