FINAL THOUGHTS ON DESIGN AND THE WEB
I wish there were more studio time to get our projects done with our instructor. It would have helped much and brought our projects along a bit quicker if we had someone by us to explain to each of us what we needed to add/subtract from our projects. Because we had to wait for everyone to come together to talk about it, I felt we wasted time in getting to a nice finish for the project.
Interacting with programmers would have been awesome, just to get a feel of what we would be doing in real-life situations. Making a real website and implementing techniques and cool stuff (javascript/flash) would have been great as well. Starting with a blog was very good, but I would rather have designed my portfolio, or a site that was just for me--rather than re-designing a site (this could have just been an option for us).
I love the fact that it was interactive and we got the change to develop our design skills. There should be a follow-up course on making our own portfolios/websites/proposals for the next semester.
I wish I knew more about the process of getting a job in web design and how I can better develop my skills in this. If we were given smaller assignments in designing, it may have been a bit more fun, but it may become stressful. Having the one project to work on through the weeks was great because it was less stressful to deal with.
All in all, I loved this class. It has become a favorite of mine because with it, I got to develop my photoshop skills in web design (something I have been wanting for a long time). I think from here I want to work more on designing with photoshop and strengthening my skills.
Thanks Fred!
